Staff & Structure
From executive perspective, the AHRDO management structure is relatively non-hierarchy, mostly based on the executive team decision. But Managing Director is responsible for overall executive coordination. The structure reflects AHRDO’s vision of a management team that can share ideas and expertise flexibly. AHRDO aims to recognize and reward ideas generated from the lower levels of the organization rather than institutionalizing a top down approach common to more vertically hierarchical structures. From structural viewpoints, AHRDO is directly overseen by the Board of Directors and guided strategically by  the Technical Advisory Board as following details:
 
1. Board of Directors: The Board of Directors is basically responsible for providing independent oversight to AHRDO operations, and strategic direction to the organization. The number of directors on the board can be altered and board members appointed with the consent of the founding members and current board.  The board is legally bound to meet twice a year although the members have agreed to meet once a in every month for the first two year. Each board member shall have a vote in board decision- making although the Chairman will have the decisive vote in cases where there is no clear outcome.  The short biography of Board of Directors are summarized as follow:

2. Technical Advisory Board (Hereafter TSB). The TSB will be responsible for providing the following technical support to AHRDO:

b.    Conceptual Guidance
c.    Fundraising
d.    Monitoring & Evaluation
e.    Institutional Development
f.    Networking


3.    Executive team:The Executive Team of AHRDO will be responsible for looking after the overall activities of the organization in accordance with its strategy and the policy guidelines set out by the Board of Directors and technical advisory board support. The Managing Director is mainly responsible for management of executive team and issues related for all executive coordination.

The details of AHRDO members are summarized as following details: 


Board of Directors:

1. Hadi Marifat is one of the co-founders of Afghanistan Human Rights and Democracy Organization (AHRDO). He studied Politics and International Relations in the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE). He has worked with different national and international human rights organizations in Afghanistan for the past 10 years. Currently, he is the director of AHRDO.

2. Khudadad Bisharat, B.A in Public Administration and is one of Co-founder of AHRDO. He has professionally extensive managerial and human rights working background with various national and international organizations in Afghanistan. In particular, he worked with more than seven international organizations in different managerial posts in the area of administration policy development, office operational management, human resource development, program strategic planning, and consultancy and human rights activities.
 
3. G. Sakhi, he is an Afghan national, has worked as professional researcher and human rights activist with several national and international organizations in Afghanistan and Pakistan. His working experience and areas of activities include researches and analysis on human rights violations in the grassroots level, documentation, Afghan refugee’s rights protection, insurgency and counterinsurgency, Afghanistan’s parliament, electoral institutions, political parties, peace- building and conflict prevention. He has studied Politics and International Relations.  

4. Orzala Ashraf Nemat, She is currently working for ICCO, an international NGO headquartered in the Netherlands, and works with Afghan partner organizations to analyze local conflicts and empower local communities to find peaceful solutions. In addition, she has extensively professional working experiences with different international organizations in the area of research on local governance, women rights, legal reform, analyzing local conflicts, political advocacy for human rights, women rights promotion, and consultancy for international organizations including Human Rights Watch, Swiss Development Corporation, UNDP, and UNIFEM.

She is a member of the Afghan Women’s Network, Civil Society and Human Rights Network, Persian Gender Network, Gender and Law working group (professionals and scholars involved in crafting the constitution), and is one of the founding members of the Women’s Political Participation Committee, and the founder of humanitarian national NGO  for women and children, and hereby her organization was given the Isabel Ferror Award for women’s education and the Amnesty International award for humanitarian aid to children and women; she was a World Fellow at Yale University in 2008.

She has a Master’s degree from the University of London in development planning, with a special focus on social development studies. CuIn her capacity as Development Facilitator for ICCO, an international NGO headquartered in the Netherlands, she works with Afghan partner organizations to analyze local conflicts and empower local communities to find peaceful solutions.

Technical Advisory Board:

1. Hjalmar Joffre-Eichhorn from Bolivia/Germany has been working with both the Theatre of the Oppressed and Playback Theatre in Afghanistan since March 2007. Before that, he worked with theatre in a variety of countries, including Australia, Bolivia, Brazil and Germany. He holds a Masters in Peace and Development Studies and a Masters in Educational Management.

2. Daria Davitti from Italy is currently based at the University of Nottingham (UK) where she is working on a doctoral thesis on the impact of investments on human rights and development in conflict countries. She has previously worked for various humanitarian NGOs, focusing on gender and human rights, including DACAAR (Danish Committee for Aid to Afghan Refugees). From 2006 to 2008 she worked as a human rights field officer for the UN Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA), and in 2009 as a consultant for the UN Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights.

3. Deborah Nonhoff  from Germany, has been a firm supporter of arts-based activities in Afghanistan since 2008. She started working in Afghanistan in early 2007, working for two years as a peace building specialist with the DED and the Afghanistan Independent Human Rights Commission. She later joined the GTZ Rule of Law programs in Kabul, where she was the rule of law advisor.
 
4. Hector Aristizábal from Colombia / USA, is a native from Medellin, Colombia, currently living in Pasadena, USA. Hector’s commitment to human rights work forced him to leave his country in 1989 due to death threats. He holds an MA degree in Psychology and is a practitioner of the Theatre of the Oppressed. Hector has worked with youth at risk in several capacities as a therapist, as an artist and as a community organizer.

He has also traveled extensively offering workshops both within the United States as well as other countries such as: Canada, Mexico, Colombia, Jamaica, Costa Rica, Cuba, India, The Netherlands, England, Palestine and Israel. During the last 15 years Hector’s main work and interest has been on the use of Theatre of the Oppressed techniques, traditional myths and storytelling as a way to combine theatre, drumming, and dance with psychotherapy in the creation of “modern rituals” as a way to address the healing needs of many of our communities.

5. Marc Weinblatt from the USA is a professional educator, artist, activist, and workshop facilitator since 1980. An internationally recognized leader in the use of the Theatre of the Oppressed (T.O.), Marc has worked with diverse communities ranging from police to homeless youth to refugees in Azerbaijan and community workers in South Africa. Marc regularly facilitates T.O. based anti-racism and anti-oppression workshops with a commitment to bringing a deep sense of spirit and humanity into social justice work.

6. Karin Gisler from Switzerland is a professional actress, facilitator and theatre trainer. She has offered workshops and trainings in Germany, Austria, Hungary, Burundi, Ukraine, Philippines and China. Besides her training as an actress, she is a certified Playback Practitioner IPTN, and has received trainings in Psychology, Arts- and Drama therapy, Group Facilitation and Clowning. She runs Playback-Theater Zürich, a professional company that performs internationally.

7. H. Saeed, born and raised in Afghanistan and Pakistan, she graduated in Political Science and Anthropology from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County. In her undergraduate honors thesis, Saeed studied the role of truth commission as a mechanism of transitional justice in Afghanistan. Her field research contained interviews with over forty experts, activists, government representative and victims. Based on her academic focus on the issues, last summer she conducted training for Afghan civil society and victim’s groups on transitional justice and truth commission in Kabul.

While at the London School of Economics and Political Science as jack kent Cooke scholar, she is continuing to keep her academic focus, through a comparative study, on issues of transitional justice in Afghanistan. Saeed’s academic interest in transitional justice is continuation of her years long commitment as human rights activist in Afghanistan, Pakistan and internationally.

Executive Team:

1. Khudadad Bisharat, AHRDO Managing Director is responsible for overall operational coordination and executive team management. See his details of his biography and background above. 

2. Sayed Mohammad Javid, Executive Member of AHRDO, B.A in Economy – Kabul University of Afghanistan, worked with different national and international organizations for the past 7 years and recently worked with parliament of Afghanistan and intern at National Democratic Institute (NDI) for almost one year, and he has developed some research papers in collaboration with NDI and Parliament – Budget and Economy Commission.
 
3. Zaman Khoshnam, AHRDO Executive Member, graduated from B.A Social Science from Kabul University. He has extensive working background on research and hereby produced various papers in the field of participatory theatre, transition Justice, human rights in general and recently worked with Daily Outlook – Afghanistan.
 
4. Geety Natiq, AHRDO Executive Member graduated from B.A Art fine from Kabul University, and she has worked with various arts based projects, with specific focus on human rights, and marginalized sectors of society for the last 8 years in Afghanistan. She participated in different human rights exhibitions as human rights artist through drawing and illustrations.
 
5. Saleem Rajab, Executive member of AHRDO who is one of the professional experienced and Co-founder of participatory theatre methodologies in Afghanistan worked with UNAMA and AIHRC joint project of transition justice, travelled over 15 provinces for the last 3 years. Before, he worked also with other humanitarian international organizations in the field of emergency assistance, education and victim’s rehabilitation in Afghanistan.
 
6. Zahra Yagana, AHRDO Executive Member studied psychopathology for three years in abroad, she worked with various national and international organizations in the area of women rights promotion in Afghanistan. She is currently one of the women rights activists in Afghanistan and wrote different analytical articles related to violence against women, past human rights abuses and documented the voices f victims.
 
7. Dr. Niek Mohammad Sharif, AHRDO Executive Member, graduated from B.A Nangarhar Medical University of Afghanistan. He is one of the war victims and human rights activist for the last 15 years, worked with UNAMA, AIHRC and ICTJ joined project on transition justice and toured different provinces. He is one of the Co-founder of participatory theatre methodologies and actor of Theatre of Oppressed, Playback and AH 7808 play which is a conventional theatre play based on the script by Irish playwright Dave Duggan and recently adapted in Afghanistan.
